Jordan
is a small community located on Norfork Lake in north-central Arkansas. If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful lakeside retreat - look no further than Jordan, Arkansas. Situated on Norfork Lake, Jordan is a nature lover's paradise. The lake covers 22,000 acres and has more than 550 miles of shoreline for recreation and relaxation. It's located in Baxter County, which prior to the construction of the Norfork Dam, was quickly deteriorating. In 1940 alone more than six hundred small farms were abandoned. With the construction of the dam in the spring of 1941, the local people who had remained in the nearby towns of Norfork and Mountain Home finally had hope of a new era dawning. Authorization for construction of the dam was included as part of the flood control act of June 28, 1938. Norfork Dam was one of six dams built to accomplish flood control in the White River basin. Today, there are 19 parks located around Norfork Lake. Recreational activities include camping, hiking, picnicking, swimming, boating, water skiing and fishing. Commercial docks on Norfork Lake provide boats, motors, diving equipment, and guides to the lake. The lake is good for catching bass, crappie, walleye, catfish, and bream. Below the dam, the North Fork River has an excellent population of trout.

Northern Arkansas is an area of rugged hills and deep valleys. It's the coolest part of the state in the wintertime and also receives the most snow than any other part of the state. Sleet and freezing rain are also possible in winter. This region generally receives several inches of snow each year due to the proximity to the plains states and the higher elevations. Summers are hot and humid, with frequent thunderstorms. Arkansas is known for being in the path of tornadoes. Also, while being far enough away from the coast to be safe from a direct hit from a hurricane, the state can often get the remnants of a tropical system which dumps tremendous amounts of rain in a short time and often spawns smaller tornadoes.
