Fairfield-Bay
is a town nestled in the Ozark Mountains on the shoreline of Greers Ferry Lake in north-central Arkansas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,338. Fairfield Bay is home to Fairfield Bay Resort, the namesake of Wyndham Worldwide-owned Fairfield Resorts. The town of Fairfield Bay is a resort/retirement village that was built to take advantage of the spectacular mountain scenery and abundant outdoor activities. The city is full of vacation-type lodgings, condos and luxurious homes. Amenities in Fairfield Bay include two 18-hole championship golf courses, hiking Sugar Loaf Mountain and exploring nearby Ozark National Forest, Blanchard Springs Caverns and the caves at Indian Rock. Of course, the gem in all of this is pristine Greers Ferry Lake, which has been rated one of the top ten cleanest and most pristine lakes in North America. Greers Ferry Lake is actually two bodies of water connected by a water-filled gorge called the Narrows. The area of the two lakes and the Narrows totals about 40,500 acres with a combined shoreline of just over 340 miles. Activities include cliff diving, boating, fishing, scuba diving, water-skiing and other water-related sports, camping and picnicking. There are 8 marinas around the lake that provide rentals of ski boats, pontoons, fishing rigs, house boats and other personal watercraft. The northern highlands region of Arkansas has a humid subtropical climate, with some areas bordering on humid continental. Four seasons include hot, humid summers, mild to cool, dry winters and warm springs and falls. The northern region doesn't border the Gulf of Mexico, but it's still close enough for the large, warm body of water to influence the weather. Annual precipitation throughout the state averages between 40 to 60 inches; somewhat wetter in the south and drier in the northern part of the state. Snowfall is common in the north half of the state, which usually gets several snowfalls each winter. Arkansas is known for extreme weather, such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, hail, snow and ice storms.
